I don't think I've mentioned it here, but I'm also blogging over at iheartsl.com. This allows me to get my stuff out on Fashion Planet, and blogging with a group is really a lot of fun! But, I don't want to completely neglect this blog either -- in case anyone is looking!

My first (and definitely not my last) outfit from Draconic Kiss. I picked this up at the clothing fair, in my favorite color! Because I did truly drain my bank account at the clothing fair, I had to accessorize from my closet -- and was reminded that I had these delightful ruffle boots from Shiny Things -- just the thing! The pink polka-dot leggings are probably a bit anachronistic, but were irresistible :)

I like to design tshirts, so am always on the lookout for interesting jeans and shorts. As soon as I saw these fun jeans, I had to have them! I had to have them immediately, and could not wait. They are by Moonshine Clothing, and at that moment, they could only be found at the Clothing Fair. So, I stripped down to my system self and headed on over. Much to my delight, I got into the fair immediately, and didn't experience too much lag. This was my first clothing fair, and I was like a kid in a candy shop. I think I drained my account in 10 minutes! I did try to mostly focus on things that were in the special RFL vendors (and freebies of course!), so I don't regret a moment of it. I haven't even opened up all my goodies yet -- but I'm sure you'll be seeing some of them in future posts :)

By the way -- I did not design this tshirt, but it is a spectacular one! I love the crisp graphics!

My Other Life

Even in Second Life I have more than one life! (well -- that is one of the points of SL, right?) Since I joined SL four months ago, I have had a soft spot in my heart for the communities of Caledon. I've been on their citizenship roles for some time, and am shortly to become a founding landowner of the new Caledon sim, Glengarry. To get ready for actually taking up residence on my tiny plot of land, I've been trying to acquire a few outfits that I enjoy, and will let me fit in comfortably into the Victorian Steampunk society. (The fashion parameters of Victorian Steampunk are still a bit vague to me -- but I'm going to keep working on that!) I was delighted to find this outfit at Layniewear's fire sale. Laynie has made the pieces of this outfit on a gazillion layers -- a little overwhelming at first, but guaranteed to be very useful! As soon as I got it on, I ran back to buy more colors.

And what could set off a steampunk look more than watchfaces?!? These pieces by Magika are absolutely wonderful! The hands on the watches move constantly, and just scream "time traveler".

Ahh... these boots. I'm in love with these boots. You may start to be realizing by now that I'm a fairly casual girl, and don't glam it up too often. But -- the moment I saw these boots, I had to have them (and a silver pair as well!). Of course, that meant I had to have something shiny to wear with them. I'm hugely fond of Punch Drunk's rock star outfit, which I've had for some time, so I went back to check out some of her other stuff. This bronze dress jumped right into my inventory! It's a little surprising that it has taken me so long to blog some of the wonderfulness from Silent Sparrow -- I'm a big fan! Plus, I acquired a huge inventory in the recent remodeling sale :). My rezz day was in November, but I still feel pretty much like a noob. I don't get in-world nearly as much as I would like right now. I aspire to learn as much as possible about design and building -- but love to play and connect with folks as much as I can.

Before this sounds too much like a pitch for a dating service, On to the Look! I started with the fun skirt from Curious Kitties, but quickly fell in love with the accessorizing! How is it that you start with one item in your closet, and never have enough of the right stuff to go with it? {even if you do have more than 13,000 items in your inventory} This look required several additional shopping trips! I'm really intrigued by the stuff at Kurotsubaki (can also find a small store in Cotton Candy) -- this bangle watch is right up my alley.

A Passion for Pink

I've been thinking that it's about time to take a stab at doing some real second life fashion-blog entries. I probably don't blog quickly enough to become a real fashion blogger -- but there are a couple of things I want to do. I want to organize my inventory ::grin::. I want to practice putting together "looks", and figuring out a style of my own. I want to practice my photography skills. I want to practice my blogging skills. OKAY! I do want to do a little bit of everything! This seems like a good way to start.

My look of the day was inspired by some of the Valentine hunts going on. (my inventory hasn't recovered from all the Christmas gifts yet!) Pink is truly one of my all-time favorite colors -- it never fails to put a smile on my face :)

I got these pants in several colors, so expect to see lots of them. Funky pants are just the ticket to go with my tees and bangles. (I didn't make this tee, tho' -- its a freebie from Graceland). Trying out some poses; and working on putting together new outfits. I've finally gotten a pose stand, and learned how to load poses into it. Even bought a couple of special jewelry-modeling poses, so can't wait to try those out with my bangles. It reminded me, too, that I need earrings to go with the sets!

Here's a new Tee that I did last night. Nothing too fancy, but I'm learning to manipulate the layers and files, so am pleased with that. And -- I do need to spend my time working on the actual painted design right now, so am sticking with a standard t-shirt template. I imagine I'll be able to graduate to some different shirt shapes soone enough.

I also put together this set of bangles. I added a complementary set for the other arm -- a little smaller, and using only one texture. If you are a jewelry fan, (like me), its nice to have something for the other arm as well! I may need to go back and make similar complementary sets for other sets. After I've got a few more sets ready to go, I think I'll try adding them to my vendor at NCI -- or maybe OnRez would be a good place to start. I don't nearly have enough to start up even a cart! (but, soon!)

Just realized I hadn't actually blogged this set -- not the best picture, but not too bad. I love the bright color, and I wear this set quite a lot. I've got it in a vendor at the NCI mall in Kuula -- but haven't had any sales (quite a bargain at $1L! {but, I did learn a bit about vendors!} Well -- and in fact, I'm not even entirely sure this crazy vendor works. Gotta get someone to try it out for me!

This is my second complete bangle set -- obviously it is the same design as the pink set, just different textures. But -- I am quite pleased with the look of the set. It is fairly chunky. But, as far as SL jewelry goes, that is sometimes a good thing. Jewelry that is too delicate might be beautiful to look at in a closeup photo, but might be completely overlooked in-world. I think this achieves a nice balance. I've got a few more sets I'm trying to put together all over my workbench (using up my prim allowance!)

I know it's been quite a while since I've blogged! I'm still enjoying SL, and feel like I've learned so much since my first days here. I've started learning to make clothes -- which I'm enjoying more than I expected! You can see a few of my hand-painted tees in my flickr stream. I've still got quite a learning curve there, but am hoping to produce more. And, I'm certainly hoping to do some original hand-drawn textures for my bangles.

I still play with my look occasionally -- but am really getting quite attached to this general look. Whenever I try on new skins and hair colors, it just doesn't seem quite right. So -- yes -- this is me!

Fashion style is still evolving -- and I'm trying a wide array of things. I've been working with some victorian and steampunk styles, as I'm hoping to settle in Caledon in the near future. Gov. Shang tells me I'm on his list for land when it becomes available. But -- with my tees and bright chunky bangles, I do occasionally go for a more casual look. But -- I do find that I'm tending to shy away from the overly revealing looks -- go figure :)

This particular photo is my first attempt to do some photoshop magic on my pictures. I think it looks great!

Also -- as you've seen from the progression in the last month, I've really been trying to zero in on my own look. I've tweaked my shape, selected some unusual eyes, and (I think) have settled on a skin-tone and makeup line. I think I'll try living with this for a while!

Although I've been messing around a little with building already, I thought I might try to catch an actual building class -- both to learn a little, and to see how classes are conduct in-world.

I'm loving this look -- almost completely made up of freebies -- except the glasses. I had to have these glasses, and artilleri was having a half-price sale. I got the fat-pack! I figure I'll get a lot of use out of them as I make the rounds of libraries and universities :)

I've also been working on my photography skills -- and am pretty happy with the results. This is done in a different type of photo studio than the last shoot -- a photosphere. It is a pretty nice setup -- a little expensive. But it has lots of options. This is done in a public photosphere -- but it would be sweet to have my own (and a place to set it up!)

First, please note the absolutely fabulous hair from Gurl 6. This one was a gift for new residents -- but while picking it up, I picked up a few more as well.

I'm currently on a quest to put together some decent outfits out of my inventory of freebies. NOT EASY! I finally came up with this one, which I was willing to wear out of the changing room. But, I had a hard time coming up with good shoes or jewelry. Yup -- I'm going to have to do some shopping for basics!

Today I visited a great little photo studio and took some practice shots. I'm pretty happy with the way the photos turned out. I'll definitely get back there!

Shape/Skin Success!

I'm so excited -- finding the right shape, and deciding which way to go with a skin was a little harder than I imagined! There are a lot of choices, and most of them have good points and bad points. And, of course, budget can be an issue. But -- I've now acquired a basic shape [may play around with a little tweaking], and have committed to a skin. Purchases have been made, and I should be ready to debut a pic tomorrow!

This is really more exciting than I thought it would be. I kinda liked my freebie shape and skin, and was enjoying it -- but I always knew they were temporary. I feel that this will be a huge step in discovering my identity. Not to mention that it was a big accomplishment! From here I'll be able to move into hair and outfits, knowing that I'm building them around a stable being.

I read a great blog today (will post info on it later) that had some great advice. This lovely blogger said that when she started SL and her blog, she tried to build an outfit everyday, and visit an interesting place every day. This was how she learned about her world, and how to live in it. I think I'll shoot for something similar -- altho' probably can't do it every day!

The outfits are going to be challenging. I've collected almost every freebie I can find, and I determined to see if I can mix and match some great outfits from them. (or use them with purchased pieces). I'm determined to be somewhat thrifty now that I've splurged on shape and skin. I have a lot of sorting and trying on that I need to do! I've already acquired well over 2,000 items in my inventory!

Ok -- here is my current image. But, I'm going to need another hosting solution for the long haul! (and better pics). This is me camping in a chair for a couple lindens. This really is not what I recommend for a disposable income!

Well -- I've been trying to get a good picture of me to put up on the blog, but no luck yet. I'm having some trouble with my host -- but I'll get it straightened out soon! And -- as it turns out, I'm working pretty hard at tweaking my look right now -- so things will be changing a bit anyway.

I've explored some of the employment options in SL, and don't find most of them worth my time right now. And, since the exchange rate is pretty good -- I'm going to ask my Creator to fund a few things.

Right now -- I'm after a great shape and skin. Altho' many residents of SL swap shapes and skins a lot -- I'm thinking that those are a couple of things that I won't be changing much. They will be a part of what makes me, me! I want my new friends to be able to recognize me. I'm hoping to have my new look by the next time I post.
